Our Wedding Vendors

I literally have maybe four photos from our wedding, these being them. I’m so looking forward to getting back our professional photos because I know we got some amazing shots!

Planning a wedding can be a daunting task. Luckily, it is similar to my job. It’s all about project management people! I had a vision from the get go and I know what I like and what I don’t which is also pretty crucial. Erik and I were so lucky to work with such AMAZING vendors and our wedding would not have been the same without them!

Photography: We hired the wonderfully talented Dallas and Sabrina of Dallas Kolotylo Photography. They were a breeze to work with, super flexible, happy, enthusiastic and very professional. It really put me at ease to see them so excited about the shots they were getting and it also made me really happy that they actually cared. So often as a bride you get wrapped up with your wedding as it’s the most important day of your life. And then you start to think that it’s everybody else’s most important day. Not the case. Nor should it be. But both Dallas and Sabrina truly cared about making this day all about us and it went just perfectly. We couldn’t be happier!!

Day of Coordinator: I must have been smoking something in the beginning of planning this all thinking that I could do it on my own. The best wedding present Erik and I gave to ourselves was hiring a day of coordinator, Chelsea Linton of Chelsea Linton Weddings. There are things that you simply CANNOT do the day of your wedding or leading up to it. Trust me when I say, she was an absolute life saver and made the day flow soooo smoothly. If it weren’t for her, we would have been three hours behind schedule. It was wonderful to have Chelsea, who is extremely organized and on the ball, execute the the flow of events, help our MC, oversee the schedule and deal with any issues behind the scenes. Best investment ever.

Decor: Now obviously I’m a picky b**ch when it comes to decor. I scoured Pinterest and came up with my scheme. I knew that I didn’t want a wedding that you had seen too much before. And the date being New Year’s definitely dictated the look and colours I was going for. I hired Brooke Olson of Flaunt Events by recommendation of my bridesmaid Chanel Holt of Love of Fair. Brooke and I met a few times to go over everything I wanted and bonded over our obsession for the details. She did all of the decor- center pieces, linens, my bouquets, everything. The set up and take down was all part of her services as well and she hit it out of the park!! I remember walking into Brix right before the ceremony with just my bridesmaids and squealing when I saw the tables! They blew me away and distracted me from the fact I was about to get married, they were that good. I was absolutely thrilled with the job that Brooke and her team did. She is amazing and a blast to work with!

Dessert: We ended up skipping a cake. It just wasn’t a priority for us. BUT we did hire Sweet Thea to make us delicious macaroons and mini cupcakes. They are by far the most delicious mini desserts I’ve had hands down! The vanilla bean macaroon was my fave. I still have some left overs in my freezer :)

Transportation: We used Aerocar for our limo service. They were super professional, on time, polite and good drivers (a must for a cautious driver like myself!). We were very happy with their service.

Music: We went with DJ Stew Fletcher of Siegel Entertainment. Stew did a fantastic job of playing upbeat, danceable music that got the crowd of all ages on their feet. After midnight, he played more hip hop as per our request once some of the more mature crowd had departed :) Siegel Entertainment was very easy to work with and we would highly recommend them.

Venue: Having our wedding at Brix was one of our best decisions. We basically were set up from the day we booked to have a successful wedding. The event planner Jennifer and staff went above and beyond our expectations and were so helpful and accommodating. The food was so delicious, the wine was tasty, and the service was impeccable. The staff was so damn friendly and told us it was one of the best weddings they had done all year! Not to brag or anything ;) It was an intimate, beautiful space and it perfectly complimented how we wanted our wedding to be.

Dress: My dress is by Tara Keely and I bought it at Bisou Bridal. The ladies at Bisou are so helpful and truly know their bridal couture! Elise was my consultant and she did everything in her power to make me feel comfortable and at ease. She was able to make miracles happen and get me the dress that I had been dreaming about on short notice. Thank you Elise and Bisou! Your ladies are a dream!

Jewelry: Elsa Corsi made all of my beautiful jewelry. She is the absolute GO TO for bridal jewelry in the city. The pieces I wore were unique, stylish and felt just like me. She has impeccable taste and translated exactly what I said I was looking for into the stunning earrings and bracelet I wore. Stay tuned for all of the detailed photos!

So there you have it! I want to say a huge thank you to all of our vendors, you guys are the best and we seriously could not be more appreciative and thankful for all of your hard work! Hire these people!!

It’s about time for me to sign off the blog until January…womp womp. You see, it’s the official two week countdown to my wedding. And it’s just starting to hit me. Oh and there’s Christmas. And countless events. And working out. And planning those finishing touches. My plate is full. In the perfect world, I’d have time to blog everyday because I truly love doing it. But alas, my real life is taking over. It may be a little early to wrap it up for the Holidays, but wow does wedding planning ever take up a lot of time!

I hope you have the most wonderful holiday season! I know that regardless of our big day coming in two weeks, I will slow down and cherish the time I have with my friends and family during our Christmas celebrations. After the events in Newtown this past Friday, it’s more important than ever to hold close the people you love and say those three words to them on a daily basis. I am in disbelief something like this actually happened. It’s an absolute outrage. I hope and pray the parents and families can find peace over time. I can’t begin to imagine or even try to put myself in their shoes. But I pray for them and weep with them. Their little kids will not be forgotten.

I will be back mid January with wedding posts galore :) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Maui Beach

As of January 2nd, I will be lounging on the shores of Wailea beach in Maui with my soon-to-be husband. I’m so excited to go there! I’ve been to Hawaii before a few years back to celebrate my parents anniversary and see where they met :) But I’ve never ventured to the island of Maui. Any places that I have to see or restaurants to eat at??

We’re staying at the Grand Wailea Waldorf Astoria in Wailea beach. I’ve been told the weather is the most predictable and sunny in the southern part of the island. We’ll be renting a car for part of our stay so we’ll be ale to travel around in ease.

Now what to pack?! I didn’t get too many summer clothes this past year, especially bathing suits so it’s slim pickins in my wardrobe! Luckily there’s still time to order online. I’ve been looking at J Crew and Victoria’s Secret. But here’s a little wish list of what I’d love to bring with me:

I would love to hear any recommendations for our stay there!

Weekend Outlook

Style Me Pretty Name Card

Happy weekend! As of late, each weekend is packed with wedding activites. We’ve slowly checked a few things off of our list but wow is there still a lot to do! So this weekend I’m working hard at getting the list taken care of.

I will…

  • Head to Michael’s to see if there are any supplies for some crafting I have to do. I’m making the name cards for the tables and considering I haven’t crafted since Brownies, this could get interesting.
  • Confirm our hotels and limos
  • Book a car for our honeymoon in Maui
  • Take a wedding prep breather and enjoy some delicious sushi at Happa Izakaya
  • Followed by brunch at Glowbal
  • Workout like cray
  • And finally- do a big pre- Christmas clean……

Oh and did I mention I’m off to Vegas this Thursday? :)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Wedding Beauty Prep

wedding beauty prep

T minus 5 weeks and 5 days til THE BIG DAY! You know what that means?? Beauty prep time! I’ve developed quite the little routine these days because frankly, I want to look and feel my absolute best. Here’s what I’m doing so far:

  • L’Oreal Absolut Repair Hair Mask- I use this once every week and a half to keep my hair healthy. It’s long and can dry out at the ends, so I find this helps keep it shiny. I don’t use it before an event or anything like that because it does make my hair extra slippery.
  • Skoah- Oh how I love thee! Due to mild adult acne as of late (wonderful isn’t it?) I’ve changed my skin care routine and use Skoah products. I love the way my face feels like a baby’s bottom after I wash and my skin is super clear.
  • OPI Natural Nail Strengthener- My nails are super, duper weak and brittle. Always have been. I just started using this and although I don’t have crazy strong nails, it does help!
  • Lashfood- I’m a big fake eyelash wearer when the time calls, but I like using this conditioner that also helps fullness. I used it in the summer for awhile and noticed results after 5 weeks. It’s a natural product so I feel a bit safer than using Latisse which can have side effects….but wow does that stuff work!
  • Rembrandt 2 Hour Whitening Kit- I’ve used Crest White Strips now and then, but always fall off the wagon around day 5 or so. This 2 hour kit works and it’s over and done with after an episode of SNL (yup, that’s what I did this past Saturday night!) BUT if you have sensitive teeth be careful. My gums were hurting by the fourth tray and I was trying to push through the pain, but I couldn’t handle it toward the end. My teeth are whiter and I’ll probably repeat it right before the big day.
  • Nivea Skin Firming Moisturizer- I use this lotion mostly because of the scent and how soft it makes my skin, not for the firming effects or cellulite control. That’s diet and exercise’s job.
  • Diet- Oh diet. You suck. I have made some changes and cut out the crap like soda, too many carbs, lots of bread and toned down the alcohol. I find that watching calories is the best way for me to lose weight. All diets work, but it comes down to simple math. Calories in vs. calories out. Period. I’ve added more fruit, veggies, lean protein and WATER, lots of water to my diet.
  • Gym, gym, gym- I’ve taken my cardio up a notch and am trying to get to the gym 5-6 times a week. I’ve also met with my fabulous trainer to give me some new exercises so that I don’t plateau. I’m really focusing on my upper body because that’s what’ll be showing in my dress! I love Gwyneth’s quote because it’s so true- it’s not magic, you have to work HARD!

I am getting so excited for the wedding, everything is falling into place! It’s been a relatively smooth ride planning and organizing. I think because it is similar to my day job: project management. I keep thinking I must be forgetting a million things because my stress level is relatively low. Talk to me in 3 weeks and I bet it’ll be a different story! But I’m confident everything will come together and that we will have an amazing, wonderful day.

Wedding Look

Wedding Look

As part of planning my wedding, I have also been planning my bridal “look”. I’ve picked the dress and now it’s time to pick the rest! My dress isn’t the one above, but is a representation of the tighter bodice and sweetheart neckline like what I’ll be wearing. My wonderful best friend Breianne will be doing our makeup and hair so I’ve been sourcing inspirational images on Pinterest, naturally. I’m not going cray cray with a dramatic look, just enhancing what I normally do on a night out. Note to brides: this is not a time to try a different “look”! Stick with what you know looks fantastic on you hair and makeup wise, enhance it a bit and you will feel your best!

As for jewelry, I am so excited to be wearing Elsa Corsi jewels. I have yet to pick them out, but I know that they will be gorgeous! Diamonds, maybe some pearls and a touch of emerald will complete my look. 9.5 weeks to go, but who’s counting?

I Do….

This New Year’s Eve is going to be the most special one I have ever celebrated in my entire life. Not only will I say goodbye to 2012 and ring in 2013 with all of my family and friends, I will marry the love of my life in an evening ceremony. I’m so excited to be doing a winter wedding and even more excited that it’ll be on NYE. There’s no better night of the year to party your face off, so why not add to that celebration and get hitched?

Wedding planning has gone really well so far. When you have a budget and a timeline, I find making decisions a bit easier. And the planning process is quite similar to what I do in my everyday job- project management. And the design process has been really fun. Is there such thing as a wedding “designer”? Pretty sure that career would be right up my alley. Choosing the colours, style, decor, etc. has also been quite similar to my design projects. You start with a concept and an inspiration board then work from there. Because it is a winter wedding, our colours are black, white, forest green with accents of gold. We are getting married at a beautiful local restaurant complete with ivy covered walls in the courtyard where the ceremony will be held. I think the colour palette and decor will work wonderfully in the space.

Next week, I’ll post my inspiration board for my “look”. I’ve scoured Pinterest for makeup, dresses, shoes, hair, the works. And I’m pretty close to narrowing it all down. Wish me luck in the next three months! It’s been such a whirlwind, I cannot wait to be married to the most wonderful man on the planet :)

P.S. Any wedding tips ladies?

Bridal Shower Bliss

A few weeks ago, my best girl friends and I through our beautiful friend a bridal shower at my mom’s place. It was so much fun to decorate the house, make a bunch of good food and have Christie from Christie Graham Photography come and capture it all for us! Here are a couple of shots from the day. It was a ton of work putting it all together but it was so worth it and we all had such a great time! I think a highlight was getting a photo book made of all old photos of us and having everyone sign it with marriage advice. It had me cracking up and tearing up.

Engagement Shoot with Love of Fair & Christie Graham Photography

My wonderful friends Chanel and Kim have a wedding planning business and an inspiring blog called Love of Fair. Since becoming recently engaged myself, their site is filled with wedding inspiration, decor, ideas and is my go to when I’m feeling overwhelmed with all of the choices out there for venue, dresses, etc. Chanel recently styled an engagement shoot with photographer Christie Graham. I love the video, it’s so sweet and Chanel did a fantastic job! Check it out along with Christie and Love of Fair’s sites.

P.S. Today is the last day to enter the I See Noise Giveaway!

Dream Wedding Shoes

wedding shoes

Like most women, I have a shoe obsession. And I’m not scared to admit it! So just as much as I am looking for a wedding dress, I’m also looking for that perfect wedding shoe. I am open to some different styles and colours, but these five are the dream team! I’ve always loved the idea of wearing the blue Manolo’s but I’m not ready to commit until I find a dress. But so far, here are some top contenders!
