Oh how I wish I could do some regular blogging right now…..but you see, I am leaving for New York & Montreal for 10 days (!) this Friday at 5am and I have the biggest “To Do” list of my life. I always get super wound up before I go on trip; fretting if I’ve remembered everything, brought the right clothes, have made a plan for my actual trip, etc, etc, but I haven’t even been able to any of the above. Have a wonderful few days and I’ll make sure to post from New York, New York :)
Kat’s City Guide: New York
When thinking of places to visit during my upcoming trip to New York, I felt like the best thing to do was consult a wonderful blogger who lives in the heart of it. Ladies and gents, meet Kat from With Love From, Kat. She’s here to give us a little peek at her favorite spots in good ol’ New York.
I got so excited when Amanda asked me to give recommendations for her upcoming trip to New York City. I love sharing my favorite city spots with visitors! There are so many amazing places to stay, see, and eat, but here are a few of my favorites! xx Kat
Fave Hotel – The Standard (http://www.withlovefromkat.com/2012/04/standard.html) if you want to go out- it’s in the heart of the Meatpacking District where all of the best bars and clubs are and Gramercy Park Hotel (http://www.withlovefromkat.com/2012/04/gramercy-park-hotel.html) if you want to relax- the decor is romantic and intimate, plus you get a key to the private Gramercy Park during your stay.
Fave Small Clothing Boutique – Wink because they carry items in all different price ranges and styles – there is really something for everyone! They have locations both uptown and downtown.
Fave Home Store – Jonathan Adler for fun pillows and quirky knick knacks, and Calypso Home for pretty much everything (I wish I could decorate my whole apartment from there!)
Fave Bakery/Café – Laduree (http://www.withlovefromkat.com/2011/12/laduree.html) for the most delicious macarons and Nespresso for the best latte you’ll ever have.
Best spot for breakfast – Peels for their divine cheddar scrambled eggs on a homemade biscuit and Freemans for a delicious bellini and bacon mac ‘n cheese.
Best spot for cocktail hour – The Standard Grill; great location, atmosphere and cocktail menu, what more could you ask for?!
Best spot for dinner – Tipsy Parson because it’s a cozy Chelsea neighborhood spot that serves gourmet comfort food.
Must see places in NY- The Frick Museum because it is a historical mansion on the Upper East Side with an incredible art collection and Central Park because it is beautiful at anytime of year.
Best area to walk around- West Village where you can admire charming townhouses, do some vintage shopping, and pop into local cafes along the way.

Thanks Kat, I can’t wait to check a few of these places out! New York, here I come!

Weekend Outlook
Happy weekend! It’s been such a beautiful week in Vancouver, I finally feel like summer is right around the corner. And the weekend is suppose to be warm and sunny! Let’s all take a moment to thank the weather Gods. Anyways, in one week’s time I’ll be on a plane to New York for the Kravet Blogfest and the excitement has seriously taken over! This week will be a busy one, but by next Friday I’ll be bursting at the seams waiting to arrive at JFK.
This weekend I’m going to:
- Head to J. Crew for a quick peek, get some new runners at the Running Room and new workout gear from Lululemon
- Go on a seawall RUN tomorrow morning with Erik, but I have a feeling it will entail a lot more walking than running….
- Take a trip to Pottery Barn to get some table setting decor to decorate my mom’s table for a family dinner party tomorrow night
- Work all day on Sunday finishing up some drawings and working on colour schemes
- Take one more walk around the seawall with my lady friends
- Mother’s Day dinner with the most special and loved mama in the world. I love you Mom!
What are your plans?

Color Inspiration
I’ve become a little obsessed with navy lately. It’s a great neutral and I really dig the nautical vibe. It goes well with almost any color and right here I have paired it with pink! I was shopping at the Cross this week and was inspired by their beautiful Josephine tufted sofa. I think it looks beautiful with deep navy, do you?

Met Gala 2012
Last night, every celebrity and their dog graced the red carpet of the annual Met Gala. I love, LOVE this event even more so than the Oscars because this is fashion at its best. AND it’s fun to see some of the train wrecks that show up :)
My favourite looks:
Best in my eyes: Diane Kruger
WTF?!? This was by far the worst on the carpet…..at least she could smile?
Did you have a favourite look?

Head Games
Pinterest is really messing with my head. (Warning: superficial post here!) Forever, or for as long as I can remember, I’ve had long hair, loved long hair and always wanted even longer hair. But then there’s this wee site called Pinterest with pictures and pictures of beautifully coiffed, shiny, should length hair. And I’m fighting the urge with all of my power to chop it all off! I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but here are a few pics that have been grabbing my attention…..

J. Brand: Two Ways
I bought these pants a few weeks back from Aritzia, after deciding to hop on the crazy pants bandwagon. I wasn’t too sure about them at first because they are a little out of my comfort zone. After piecing together a few looks for them, I am in LOVE! I love their versatility, they can be worn both day & night. I recently wore them to an event and ended up pairing them with black Christian Louboutins (like the ones here) and a silk dusty rose blouse from Aritzia. I’ve since become obsessed with printed pants- picked up these bad boys at Barneys this past trip to Vegas.

Weekend Outlook
TGIF! I had a great week and I’m looking forward to an even better one next week. Why, you ask? Because next week means I’m that much closer to my trip to New York. The next 2 weeks are going to be INSANE but I’m embracing the organized chaos.
This weekend I’ll be:
- Having a few meetings with clients
- Going to the gym and heading to the Seawall….bikini season is upon us
- Most likely having a quiet night on Saturday with a bit of work thrown in there
- Researching where I’d like to go while I’m in NY and Montreal. Any suggestions?
- Planning some blog posts for while I’m gone….oh, and my outfits :)
- Trying an iced coffee…weird right? I’m not much of a coffee drinker (I love lattes but they hurt me) so I figure maybe a little less milk might help. Fingers crossed because I miss you and the shakes that you give me, sweet, sweet coffee!
Have a great weekend!

NYC Countdown
I seriously can’t believe that in two weeks tomorrow, I will be jet setting to New York (!!) for the Kravet Blogfest 2012. I’ve been waiting for about a year now and have been planning every minute of that trip! Blogfest just released more exciting information about what we’ll be doing there and I almost died. Read on to find out!
My friend and fellow designer, Jess and I will be arriving in NY on the 18th for a few days of exploration before Blogfest kicks off on the Monday. We’ll be staying at the Grand Hyatt which is located next to Grand Central Station. Perfect.
On Monday, we’ll be heading to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair to check out all of the amazing vendors and their newest items. Then we’ll head to the kick off party at the Kips Bay Decorator House hosted by Margaret Russell , Editor in Chief of Architectural Digest. Next Thom Filicia hosts the after party at Savant Experience Center. I love Thom, serious design crush right there!
Tuesday we will have a full day starting with a look inside Veranda Magazine and checking out House Beautiful’s Kitchen of the Year. Next we’ll head to the Modern Life Concept House at the Dillon, hosted by Elle Decor held in one of the nine meticulously decorated town homes. After lunch, we’ll be heading to the Lee Jofa showroom and a Traditional Home event followed by the Baccarat Showroom Preview Party hosted by none other than Vicente Wolf. Yes indeed! Then off to the after party at GE Monogram Design Center.
After no sleep, Wednesday will start with breakfast and a showroom tour of Kravet, Lee Jofa and Brunschwig & Fils in the Flatiron District. After lunch hosted by NY Spaces, we tour the Museum of the City of New York. After the tour, Benjamin Moore presents the colour trends for 2013 and we follow that with an Interiors Insider Panel hosted by Interiors magazine. Next there is a farewell party at the Museum, then we head to the after party hosted by the New Traditionalists. Are you tired yet?
On Thursday, instead of flying home, I head to Montreal to meet Erik so we can celebrate our anniversary and explore the city together. I am so excited to go to Montreal, as I have never been. But apparently, I am going to LOVE it! I’ll make sure to snap tons of pictures :)

Kitchen Love
I’ve been searching for a lot of kitchen inspiration as of late because I am starting an exciting new renovation. So much goes into great kitchen design- the layout, top notch appliances, beautiful countertops, accent tiles and important details like the door hardware. At the moment, my favourite colour palette starts with white cabinetry and soft neutrals in the tiles, most likely a stone and white carrera marble countertops. These kitchens above are just a few dream kitchens on my list. Although I’m a sucker for a beautiful white kitchen, the playful pattern of the black & white wallpaper and the smokey charcoal cabinets have me drooling too! I’d love to know, what’s your favourite kitchen cabinetry colour?
